Expo 2000

"thetwentyfirstcentury"

This application was published on a limited edition of the Kraftwark-CD "Expo 2000". Before the Expo 2000 in Hannover opened the gates to the public and even before the real buildings were finished a virtual three-dimensional model gave an impression of the site. The emphasis was put on providing the future visitor with an impression of the architecture. To publish the data intensive realtime VR-model on a software which should run on as many computers as possible it was necessary to make a selection of panoramic views and movies of the VR-model and to create a user interface to present them.

8 X 24 X 60 X 60

Looking back it's hard to say whether it was youthful cockiness or simply greed for money that made us take on this project with its all too tight schedule of only eight(!) days. Somehow my memories are limited to the negative side effects that occur when humans work 72 hours without any sleep. During this project I discovered my ardent desire for solid project management and I learned that in case of little time you have to reduce the technological challenges to a manageable degree and try to convince with good graphic design and ideas instead. It is simply to risky to create software under time pressure and exhaustion. The quality of an application does not necessarily have to suffer if you reduce the number of features and the technological demands. A costumer with a reliable simple solution will end up a lot more satisfied than one with an unstable complex piece of software that only maybe runs on odd days when the weather is good on some computers almost safely.
